Turbomaps Update: Better Editing
It’s been great to see everyone trying Turbomaps over the last few weeks. There’s been a lot of good feedback and we’ve been making adjustments accordingly—please keep the suggestions coming!
Here’s what’s new in Turbomaps this month.
New editor features
You can now right click on layers on the map or in the sidebar. This menu includes all the existing context specific actions, and a few new ones too:
- Reorder Layers: You can now reorder layers or send them directly to front/back.
- Flatten Layers: If you select multiple layers of the same type, you can merge them together.
- Duplicate Layers: Makes a copy of any existing layer. Full copy/paste support is coming soon!
Additionally, you can now flip layers horizontally or vertically by resizing them on the map. There’s also a few more keyboard shortcuts throughout the editor, including switching between tools (hover over the tool to see the shortcut key).
Better data editing
There’s been quite a few changes to improve the data editing experience—bad data is now less likely to stop the app from working. There’s now a warning if your data is invalid GeoJSON, and modifying the geometry type in the editor will reflect on the map correctly.
The observability in our backend systems has been significantly improved, so we’ve increased some of the system limits (layers can now be up to 256KB, and files can hold more layers). We also now have a status page in the case of maintenance or any outages.
Other changes
- The ruler tool now automatically converts between between meters/kilometers (length), and square meters/hectares/square kilometers (area).
- Your email must be verified before creating a new map.
- Fixed an issue that caused layers to flicker.
- Fixed an issue that prevented drag and drop imports from working.
